What We Do

Rebuilding Democracy provides consulting, training, leadership development, and technical assistance to Democratic organizations to assist them in developing a strong grassroots organizing capacity that remains active during election years but also remains together during off-years. 


During election years, like 2010, we focus on encouraging neighborhood actitvies, training neighborhood leaders and then training folks to do robust precinct organizing like:

  • Voter ID
  • Getting comfortable with doorbelling
  • Talking with persuadable voters
  • Working with the campaigns

Our job is to help local Democratic and otherwise Democratic-leaning organizations develop a strategy to elect Democrats up and down the ticket.  

In the off-years, like 2009, we focus on community-building in other ways. 

  • We hang out with our neighbors and make friends
  • We strenthen and build up our local organizations
  • We pay attention to the policies our Congresscritters and Legislators propose and learn to follow and analyze bills
  • We discuss the issues and policies and come together to support the policies and bills that make sense
  • We make our voices heard, locally and in a wider context
  • We organize our neighbors and work with folks we meet over the Internet 
  • We look around us and determine how we might help others and do so  

With the start of this website, RebuildingDemocracy.com we provide a location for a conversation about party and community-building in Washington State.  

We are also hoping to facilitate one of the conversations about how we learn from the campaigns this year and continue to get better at electing Democrats up and down the ticket and then holding all our elected officials accountable.  We hope to be able to film short videos of  representatives of as many organizaions as want to talk; we want to hear about what worked well and what we could do better next time.

As a consulting group, Rebuilding Democracy trains other progressive organizations on the skills and strategies to organize via new media.  Or, for those who prefer, we can develop websites or produce videos.
